Yoga & Essential Oils

peppermint-oilIf you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, and flowers of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being pleasantly fragrant to us, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health care practices.

Yoga allows us the time to tune out the world and go within.  It’s common to feel tense and distracted when we set out to practice yoga. When we add the natural, harmonizing earth element of plants into our space through essential oils, we enhance our experience by bringing in the unique aroma and powerful healing energy each plant provides.  Essential oils assist us in balancing our body, mind and spirit, and can be exactly the addition we need to help us feel focused, relaxed and grounded on our mats. Essential oils help us recognize the beautiful peace that surrounds and supports us in each moment if we will take the time to ‘smell the roses’.
